Dark chocolate has become a favorite of many Americans. It has become a favorite of those who are trying to lose weight. Some of the health benefits are covered in the research reports. The list is long. A large study by Marion Nestle and her colleagues, reviewed dark chocolate's effects on weight loss. They examined the effects of consuming two ounces of dark chocolate daily on the subjects' weight, appetite, and metabolic rates. The participants lost weight over time. They ate three times as much dark chocolate as white chocolate. They also ate more of the other healthy things they ate. In addition, the researchers tracked their blood sugar levels to see if any changes occurred. They found that the group eating more of the healthy treats had lower blood sugar. This caused them to eat less of the unhealthy treats. The study was done three years ago. The results have not changed.
